This month, we are celebrating a new kidney transplant: our 6th kidney transplant recipient! After two prior failed attempts and being removed from the waitlist due to limited support and unreliable transportation, Kidney Companions stepped in to fill the gaps. And now, with Kidney Companions’ help, our newest partner received a kidney early in October. When he got the call, our Kidney Companions team quickly mobilized: the patient had his Kidney Companions’ go-bag ready and packed, our on-call driver picked up our partner within an hour, and within only a few hours more, our partner was at the transplant center and in the operating room receiving the kidney! We are very glad to report that our Kidney Companion and his new kidney are doing exceptionally well, and the Kidney Companions team (one stellar volunteer, in particular) has been with him on multiple follow-up visits now. As he recovers from surgery, we are continuing to support him with food and meals in the coming weeks.
