Here we will provide updates, highlight the people within Kidney Companions, and share stories and actions you can take in a broader community.

Winter is here in Northern Michigan, and while we hope each of you are enjoying the winter beauty and activities, the return of winter to Northern Michigan reminds us of the important role of Kidney Companions. Considering the nearly 500-mile roundtrip to Detroit Metro and the nearly 300-mile roundtrip to Grand Rapids Metro, Kidney Companion volunteers serve critical roles in ensuring the safe arrival of our Kidney Companion partners to their transplant centers. Just in the last few weeks, two of our teams, with help from volunteers Carrie and Ross, made the trip to Ann Arbor for different appointments. The selfless giving of time and effort helped ensure that our Kidney Companion partners are staying actively engaged on the list and with their health. Enjoy the snow and drive safely!

If you or someone you know is making more community involvement and volunteerism part of their 2025 resolutions there’s still time! We’d love for you to explore joining Kidney Companions!

On the second Thursday of each month, we gather for all who are interested in learning about Kidney Companions. We will always have an existing volunteer there for you to ask questions and listen to their experience. This is a great time to explore your interest in becoming a volunteer or invite someone who you think would be interested.

We are still walking!

Join us Tuesdays at 9:15 am and/or Wednesdays at 11 am for a casual walk with lovely company. We will keep going in the winter, indoors at the mall or in the Commons at times.
