In an effort to reduce the rural disparities seen in those living with kidney disease, there are increasing calls for Congress to enact the CARE for All Kidneys Act in 2023. If enacted would help spur research and policy efforts into the geographic and socioeconomic disparities driving kidney disease. By engaging key stakeholders, the act would expand ongoing kidney disease research and facilitate interventions designed to address lower kidney transplant rates in underserved communities. The bill would also seek to improve access to home dialysis modality and telehealth services; thus helping to address the gap in care patients living in rural areas experience. The bill was first put forth in 2021, but it never moved out of the House sub-committee on Health, but now efforts by the American Kidney Fund, National Kidney Foundation, and American Society of Nephrology are seeking to re-introduce this bill into the 2023 legislative agenda.
