Thank you for being part of our Kidney Companions community. Here we will provide updates, highlight the people within Kidney Companions, and share stories and actions you can take in a broader community.

As we welcome summer, we celebrate another successful month. Our Kidney Companion who received a new kidney in April has done fantastic. The Kidney Companions team ensured that he made it to all 4 of his weekly follow-up visits at the transplant center. He continues to improve every day and remains dialysis-free!

Kidney Companion volunteers also stepped in to help an older patient on dialysis. Two of our most reliable volunteers showed their strength when they helped him clear out his numerous (and heavy) home dialysis supplies. This experience has provided yet another invaluable perspective on the dialysis-transplant process: the difficulty our patients have in removing all the waste and discarded products that go along with home dialysis.

Finally, we welcome new Kidney Companion volunteers, who have jumped in and have begun meeting with the Kidney Companions team and partner. The team has made several trips to Peshawbestown in helping our Kidney Companion partner, building a lot of trust and bringing happiness along the way.

On the second Thursday of each month, we gather for all who are interested in learning about Kidney Companions. We will always have an existing volunteer there for you to ask questions and listen to their experience. This is a great time to explore your interest in becoming a volunteer or invite someone who you think would be interested.

We have an endless list of important, finite jobs where we would love your support. This could be walking a pet while someone is at the hospital, stocking their fridge to have fresh food when they come home from a hospital stay, preparing “go bags” for urgent travel to the hospital, or it could be moving and clearing out boxes of no longer needed medical supplies. The list goes on and expands where you would provide tremendous value.
