The 2nd Annual Trinity Health Kidney Transplant Symposium will be Thursday April 11th in Grand Rapids. In line with the theme of the symposium this year, Overcoming Barriers to Kidney Transplant, John and Molly were asked to present a talk about Kidney Companions. They will be presenting Kidney Companions: Improving Access to Kidney Transplants in Northern Michigan. We are excited to participate in this event, which will help to grow our presence as an organization and further build our relationships with the key transplant centers in Michigan. Gift of Life Michigan is honoring Kidney Companions as the Community Partner Champion of the Year at their Annual Champions Gala in Novi, Michigan on April 4th. As the organ procurement organization for the state of Michigan, Gift of Life recovers more than 1,000 organs every year for transplantation. Each year they honor partners across the state who facilitate every aspect of donation and transplantation. In addition to Kidney Companions being named the Community Partner Champion of the year, Munson Hospital — northern Michigan’s healthcare system — was named as the Hospital of the Year. We currently have two Kidney Companions partners who are active on the kidney transplant list. The Kidney Companion teams have been actively engaged and are organizing primary and back-up coverage for both partners. Additionally, we have two partners who are very close to being activated, with one who has a critical appointment later this month in Grand Rapids. Our Kidney Companion's team has been incredibly active and intimately involved in her progress, and we are thrilled to realize some well deserved success!
