Here we will provide updates, highlight the people within Kidney Companions, and share stories and actions you can take in a broader community.

As we enjoy Autumn and move toward the winter season – with the challenging and hazardous driving that comes with it – we are pleased to share that both Trinity Health Transplant (Grand Rapids) and the University of Michigan Kidney & Liver Transplant programs are now offering an outreach clinic in Traverse City. Each program will offer pre-transplant appointments – and in some instances post-transplant appointments – on a monthly to quarterly basis. While many rural disparities in access still exist, this nonetheless represents a huge step forward for our Northern Michigan communities, and it reflects our years-long effort by Kidney Companions to bring this to fruition. It is the dedication of Kidney Companion volunteers that made this possible, and with your continued advocacy, the success of these outreach programs will only grow. Finally, we are also very pleased to share that our Kidney Companion partner – a recent recipient of a new living donor kidney – is now home in Northern Michigan and doing well! Her resilience and perseverance have been inspiring to witness, and she will be the first post-transplant patient to be seen in the new outreach clinics here. Truly an incredible story all-around!
