This month we are celebrating 2 years of dialysis-free living by our first Kidney Companion, Robert. In September 2022, Robert received the call from University of Michigan, and his team quickly mobilized to support him in his journey. Over the past two years, as Robert’s health has restored, he has seen a renewed growth in at least two of his passions: cooking and traveling. As many of our Kidney Companions will attest, Robert is an exceptional cook with a long history of professional culinary experience. Whereas before transplant, his time was consumed with dialysis and kidney failure, he has now resumed his skillful cooking in his newly remodeled kitchen. Several of our Kidney Companions have already enjoyed his cooking first-hand thanks to his generous invitations. Our Kidney Companions will also attest to Robert’s love of travel, and how dialysis was both a literal and figurative chain to his peripatetic lifestyle. Now, in a renewed focus, Robert is planning a trip to Costa Rica this fall, something that for years had eluded him. Congratulations Robert on your two years of success and with gratitude to his donor. We look forward to hearing about your travels and enjoying your fine cooking!
