What is kidney disease?

THE TRANSPLANT PROCESS

Our mission is to enhance access to kidney transplantation for patients living in Northern Michigan.

Vision

Our vision is to create an environment free of the current social support barriers preventing kidney transplants.

Together we can make more transplants possible

Hear from those supported by Kidney Companions.

Despite the profound benefits of kidney transplantation, numerous patients who are in desperate need of a kidney transplant do not receive one. In particular, rural populations, ethnic and racial minorities, and persons of lower socioeconomic status are dramatically less likely to even be listed for a transplant.

Our goal is to facilitate a volunteer team - known as 'Kidney Companions' - who will provide the social support needed for individual patients seeking kidney transplant.

Together, we will help facilitate more kidney transplants for our at-need population and improve long-term outcomes for people living with kidney disease.

Testimonial

Transportation to and from a transplant hospital 3+ hours away can be a hardship for some patients. Patients with limited support system find it difficult to meet the requirements needed to have a successful transplant.
